2016 ultra limited starting problems
I have a 2016 ultra limited and have had persistent problems with it starting. At times I get a clicking sound similar to cellinoid not engaging starter. Ive taken battery to oreilly’s and it tested as good battery. Jumping battery or using tender charging doesn’t help. Even when the starter does engage, it is draggy at starting. Is this a common problem that has a common fix

Thank you for input, I’ve had it to them before, and of course it didn’t have problem at the shop, everything checked out ok. But it has stranded me on 4 different occasions. I’m gonna have them look into again if I can get it there.

It sounds intermittent so that does complicate troubleshooting.
I would ask and try to isolate when it happens. Like on cold starts? Or hot starts arter riding? Or the second start of the day or just when.
If I were working on it myself the first thing I would do is check all wiring connections at the battery, grounds and at the starter. If that didn't cure it and I was 100% certain I had a good, fully charged battery I would consider replacing the starter.
Getting Harley to replace the starter under warranty without being able to reproduce the fault might be difficult to impossible.
Good luck.

Are you starting in gear or neutral(obviously with the clutch pulled in either situation).
My 17 Heritage(same motor as your 16 FLHTK) was a hard starter in gear(with the clutch lever pulled obviously), even though the clutch was adjusted multiple times and a few times left to loose just to trouble shoot clutch drag. ALWAYS harder to start in gear even fresh off the battery tender. Solution, only start in neutral. It fired right up every time. If it was in 1st, it would chug 3-6 revolutions before starting. Hot or cold, didnt matter.
NOW, IMO, that was not a true "fix" or "solution", but a work around to some issue that was deeper than anybody was willing to go to figure out why there was clutch and thus transmission drag on the motor when starting in gear.
