There are lots of dealers and indys who absolutely refuse to mount car tires on bikes for potential liability issues. I can't blame them and considering that that the darksiders represent an extremely small % of the total number of bikers, they're not losing much business doing so anyway.

I'm curious to know what you guys think the % of darksiders is. I'll say less than 1%. Are there statistics somewhere?

It has to be a very small amount. I have not met one, or even seen one parked in the last two years. Of course, I am not asking either.

Just doesn't look right to me.....

The lean limit on a Harley touring bike (without mods to increase it) is not near what that last picture shows. It's not much farther than the one in the middle. And what's shown there is more contact patch than a properly inflated motorcycle specific tire even in a straight line. The contact patch argument is old news and has been debunked more times than I can count.

From following a goldwinger buddy of mine several times on the tail of the dragon and other NC mountain roads , the contact patch is a lot wider than simply taking a tire and leaning it over...

What you think bikes ran before they made "motorcycle" tires?

Bicycle tires, then larger bicycle tires, then motorcycle specific tires.

...And this is exactly why we have a "Dark Side" section.

This topic has been covered and checked many times. Various folk have letters from insurance companies, attorneys, police, etc. As long as the tire is a DOT legal tire, there's no problem. Because, there is no legal requirement to run something called a "motorcycle" tire.

The next time I fly on a trip, I am going to see if they have put car tires on the plane. Because if they have, the only reason is that they are cheap and trying to save money.

If they have, then I am going to walk briskly back to the ticket agent and ask for a discount.....

Now, I have NEVER run a car tire on a bike, nor do I intend to.
But as a dues paying officer of the court (Lawyer), can you, or ANYONE.... point me to a SINGLE instance where insurance coverage has been denied by any insurance company, anywhere, ever, due to a rider running a DOT complaint car tire on a vehicle it was not designed for. IE, a car tire on a motorcycle. Cause in my decades of experience as an Attorney, I simply have NEVER heard of such a situation. Maybe it exists? If so, I would like to see it.
