I am too old to be messing with maps and have been using a zumo for years. Beats the infotainment on the new bikes all day long IMO. Money for tolls is kept in a pocket easily accessible. Never considered a tank bag. That is something you would see on a metric bike. JMO

I used a magnetic cell phone case with a clear front. Didn't use the cell phone in it, just a pad of paper and pencil for directions.
There was also pockets for other stuff... Cash/credit, etc.
Might work for your needs, and is easy enough to take off if not needed. Saved my *** one day lost near the Canadian border.

I love tank bags, and have used them on many bikes over the years. But my Road King is all tank bag failure. Tank angle, tank mounted speedometer, and handlebar interference. It's just s no go sitting there in the driveway.
i have seen what are essentially magnetic baggies that hold a map. That might work on a Harley touring Ike.

Been using tank bags for decades. Clearly, with your tank speedo, you are limited on the size you can use. They are very popular here in Europe and I have a couple of Givi, who make a wide variety. Don't know if they are available across your side of the pond? Got a neat smallish one for the Sporty, which Mrs B uses as a shoulder bag while away from the bike.

This place might have something for your bike Roadie Tank Bags. A buddy has the map pouch for his King, but I weaned him out of it with a GPS. He still uses the maps to check the accuracy of the GSP. Go figure.
