I'm no mechanic, but that doesn't look right to me. Do I need to replace these two?

It would be best to replace both. Not much oil gets to that area is the problem for a long time.

The real working edge to the while assembly is the lobes - which look fine.
The red stuff is what most call fretting is due to lack of lubrication and can usually be cleaned up with some emery cloth or light sand paper as long as the surface is not terribly gouged or pitted.

I vote clean it up and carry on.

Looking at those pics I have to ask ….

1) what year bike?

2) How many miles on the bike?

3) Has Comp ever been replaced?

4) If it has, how many miles since

5) How long was it in storage?
.

1) 2002
2) Right around 22,000 miles.
3) Not that I know of. I'm guessing not. I've had the bike for less than two years.
5) Since I've had it, it hasn't gone more than a couple months without being ridden. When I bought it though, it was 14 years old and had less than 20,000 miles on it, so it might have been in storage for a while at some point during it's life.

I am no expert, but I am in agreement with what lp said above.

Maybe if you post this in the Primary/Transmission/Driveline section
(https://www.hdforums.com/forum/prima...ine-clutch-54/ )
one of the Pro’s may chime in.

No need to replace that.

You can't tell from the pics the extent of the damage but unless those parts are seriously gouged up I would not replace them. That comp gear and extension shaft will run you around $350.00 . Clean and smooth them up the best you can and put it back together. You can even make sure the two bad spots are not lined up when you reassemble it. The older style comps lasted much longer than the later model comps. Don't know what your cam slider looks like but the lobes on that comp gear look pretty good. At 22,000 miles it should still be fine

If for some reason you do decide to replace them I have a brand new stock 25T HD comp sprocket #40308-94 sitting on the bench Id let go very cheap.
I purchased it before I decided to install a Baker 6 speed in my Sons 06 RK which comes with a different comp sprocket

Knowing WHY you took it apart might influence the recommendations. Were you just bored and wanted something to do or was there a symptom of some sort that had you concerned?

I have it apart just to replace a leaking shift shaft seal.
