Default 23" rake or no rake

I've been wanting to put a 23" wheel on my bike and I would like it in tight. I have heard that I can mount it on stock just changing the fender mount or rake it out. Wondering which way would be best as far as handling is concerned and if there are any concerns I should know of going either way. Going on a 17 road king special. Thanks in advance

I had a 23” but it wasn’t a road king and had to be raked out with a new tree. The handling was great as I completed the MSF courses with it. Handled way better than the breakout in stock form.
I’ve never seen a 23” that didn’t have a rake to it but can’t say if it could be done.
