New tire vibration
I just replaced my stock front tire on my Ultra Limited with a Michelin Commander II and I have felt a slight vibration and noise when leaning into a right or left turn. Is this normal or should I be concerned? I have around 200 miles on the tire and I have it at 38 PSI. Thanks Bill |
Hard to say, I've never experienced a vibration in the handle bars just because of going around a curve unless there was a mechanical issue.

Op...did you balance the wheel after installing the tire? |
That's not normal, you shouldn't feel any vibration. I just had the front tire replaced on my Ultra Limited with a stock Dunlop and it rides absolutely perfect. The tire noise heard when leaning right or left is typically a characteristic of tire cupping but yours is brand new so that should not be a problem. Possibly the tire was not balanced correctly or could be a bad wheel bearing. |
As far as I know the dealer balanced it. I’ll take it back to them to make sure. Thanks |
Possibly a defective tire that balances fine, bit has a side-to-side wobble? I had this happen on a Wide Glide. I could look down over the fender and see a slight wobble to the tire, though the rim was true.

Tech might have put the wheel on backwards.

Take the weights off and try sticking 2 ounces of Dynamic Balancing Beads in the tire. Doing this will prove if it's a balancing issue and not compromise any guarantee you may have on the tire itself against manufacturing defects. You can also do this at home in about 10 minutes once you have the beads and applicator. I use them and would never go back to weights.

FWIW, I had the same tire put on front and back about two weeks ago.....completed a 2500 mile tour with no issues at all.
It could be a defective tire, installation or balancing......clearly, there should be no vibration as you describe. I agree that you should return to where you purchased it. |
