Default Unfamiliar Sound

I’m new to HD, having come over from a 02 Honda gl1800 to a 13 ultra limited. I’m getting used to the sounds of the HD, however, I’m hearing a sound that puzzles me. When rocking the throttle, I’m hearing a “Klink” just prior to accelerating and decelerating torque. It happens regardless of rpm or gear.
A couple of seasonedHD riders have told me that’s normal, nothing to worry about. However, a friend I was riding with this morning, on his 16 RG CVO, said his does not make that sound.
Has anyone else experienced this, and is it indeed normal? I’m a little Leary of unfamiliar sounds as the wing I rode was tight and quiet.

I’d check the tension on the primary chain to make sure it’s within spec.

Doesn’t it have an automatic tensioner?

Keep the Harley between 2000-3500 rpm to minimize drivetrain lash.

Yes, but they are known to either never ratchet up (loose chain) or racket up so tight the chain is like piano wire. Sounds like yours is running loose.

Compensator.

They all do that, eventually. There's nothing to worry about; ride you machine and learn to ignore noises. One man's "quiet as church mouse" is another man's "wrenches in a dryer".

I agree with compensator if it sounds like it's on the last side front of the primary. And test sometimes that's considered normal

Welcome to the wonderful world of Harley. I too am a former Goldwing jockey. It took me a while to get used to all the funky Harley noises. I wouldn’t want to try to diagnose yours based on the description you gave. Could be the compensator. Could be something else entirely. Hard to tell without tearing into it. If it worries you that much take it to a competent tech and have them listen to it. Otherwise just ride the crap out of it til it breaks, fix it and ride it some more. If it really is the compensator it’ll get a whole lot worse before it fails. You should start hearing a loud clank when you shut it down and it’ll start giving trouble when you start it up. Not all that complicated to replace it. Just labor intensive and time consuming.

I believe Ripsaw answered it in another thread:

Item 17 in the attachment.
I did and he was spot on. I can’t seem to get the diagrammatic breakdown of the tranny to load, but now I’m comfortable that it’s common.
