Default Suspension help... 18 SGS

Looking for recommendations... I have a 2018 SGS and the Mrs is complaining of back pain when we hit bumps. I’m about 300lbs and she’s about 170. Can anyone recommend an aftermarket rear suspension that could make the bike more comfortable? Ohlins? She complains that it jars her back when we hit bumps

Anything is better than the OEM suspension..... but I believe in "buy once, cry once"... Get a "Premium" shock, they won't be cheap...

Ohlins, and Pro-Action seem to be the premium shock choices that are currently the most popular. Both brands have a large, satisfied following on this site...

Search rear suspension, Ohlins, and/or Pro-Action..... you will need a few days to read all that pops up... and a keen focus, to wade through all the hurt feelings and childish banter/name calling that seems to go hand in hand with people sharing personal opinions on a public forum...

Good luck...

Go with Pro Actions, they have 3-1/2” of stroke if you get the 13” version. Lifetime warranty thru DK Customs (including rebuilds) and outstanding customer service from both George and DJ. These guys designed these shocks for the Harley Davidson’s and it shows in the build quality, ease of adjustment, and superb comfort and handling they offer.

Many of us have PA’s now and prefer them over Ohlins and Legends. I’m 280 and the wife is 180 and she is just tickled pink over the ride of the Pro Actions on the bike

Since you have Pro-Action... can you say how the bike sits, with the sag set, compared to the OEM Shocks...

I'm 5'8", and have no problem with the height of the OEM air shocks on my Bagger, but certainly don't want it any higher and would love it a little lower...

it sit’s just a touch lower than stock with the Pro Actions, that’s two up of course.

The Ohlins 136’s I had (they have a 3-5/8” stroke) sat higher unless I really loosened them up,then we had issues bottoming. When I had then set where we didn’t bottom, then it sat higher..they also rode pretty good set up like this so I didn’t mind, but I’m 6’1”

What is the general consensus of Air ride? I mean some say its not worth it, some say its the best way to go.. I have never tried it and dont know if I want to go that route.

One thing I ABSOLUTELY HATE is the fact that I have to take the bag off every time i switch solo to two up. My wife and i ride most of the time she is here but the next morning i may ride to work then that evening she will jump on and we will go to dinner.. Its just so much taking the bag off and on and twisting that ****..

Some say air ride with a button would fix that but i dont know if I want to go that way or not.. Does anyone have any ideas or other thoughts.. I too am on 18 SGS thats why i am asking same as this guy.

thanks

I'm not a fan of air ride... I don't like the ride, nor do I like the complexity of the systems... just more to go wrong....

When I had premium shocks on my last bagger, I would have the preload set for two-up riding, because I ride mostly with my wife on the back. I only changed the pre-load for solo riding if I were going on a long, or multi-day, trip without the wife. For solo rides around town, the slightly stiffer suspension didn't cause me any heartburn...
