One needs to remember that NEW ECM's from HD are blank, as in nothing in them. This is done because the same ECM fits several different applications and years. You should have the new ECM installed in your bike then have the dealer install the proper STOCK software for YOUR bike. The factory DT tool is the only one that does this correctly. There are a couple of aftermarket one that claim they can do it, but rest assured they do not, I have seen it first hand many times over the years. Save yourself the time and trouble and just get it done right at the dealership.
If you replaced the ECM and the FP was mated to the original ECM you will have to purchase another license for it.
The FP3 is married to the VIN it's first installed in. There's no divorce. If the FP3 was installed prior to installing the new ECM you'll have to purchase a new FP3.

I’m just wondering. Maybe a call to V&H is in order. If the dealer has to initialize a new ECU, wouldn’t setting up the VIN be part of that procedure? And after it’s done, would the FP3 then work with It?
