If it scares you, keep your foot against it as your leaning it over. Then dismount.
Legend has it that the CHiPS designed the jiffy, so they could dismount, doing exactly as you describe, while drawing their revolver and running away from their bike! Watch the film Electra Glide in Blue......

almost positive the jiffy stand predates the California Highway Patrol.

I'm happy to be put right - it's ages since I 'learned' that tale!

Doesn’t matter who created it, the OP should just be doing it.

Old motorcyclist and rider, but "new" to Harley... Just got a 2018 Road King for by B-day and as the OP noted I too was really concerned over the side / jiffy stand. The bike each time, even with putting the foot all the way, it moved enough to make me think, the new bike is going to roll over. However I got down, looked at the system and the way it engages and I am a lot less fearful of the RK tipping over. The slide that engages (from the top view) when the stand moves forward provided some piece of mind...

The CHP was established in 1929. The leg stop was introduced in 1974 (check the part number). Don't know if the CHP had anything to do with the development or not (actually, I doubt it but who knows) but the agency has a long and storied history that didn't come about due to CHiPs.

Well my 2003 Sporty didn't have issues, nor did my 2006 Street Glide....My 2000 Springer is as stable as can be .....but this PIG of an Ultra wants to roll no matter what.... the FLHXi did it once and I about fainted..... so not really ...old guy with old bike ... with a question to see if it was common amongst the 800lb bikes..... New to the site though

Been racing dirt scooters for the past 7 years and decided it might be time to slow down....let me rephrase that...be more comfortable and less competitive in my riding preferences .....
