Default High-Pitched Whine Suddenly Developed

In what sounds like the primary area. It's VERY pronounced when I downshift to 1st while slowing down. It's loudest in neutral. Reduces some when kicked into gear, but it's DEFINITELY a new sound. And it sounds like $$$. I JUST had a 25,000 mile service done (all fluids, gaskets, etc) a couple of months ago. Did they forget to put fluid in my primary or tranny?

I just dropped a couple of grand on the service (and other things) and this is making me VERY concerned. Any thoughts on what it could be? Oh, the bike performs fine. Shifts normally, etc.

A tight primary chain will howl like a banshee. If you remove the derby cover, like inside for fluid. With the bike upright the oil should be at the bottom of the clutch pak.

year and model of bike may be useful info, may want to edit first post and enter that info.

you said did 25k service months ago...so bike has been ridden regularly w/out the sound?

did you check the fluid levels?

The automatic primary chain adjuster simply ratcheted up a notch and it's tighter than it was before. I've had the same thing happen several times. As the tensioner wears a little and you get a little slack in the chain, it will quiet back down pretty quickly. At least until it hits the next notch. Nothing to worry about.

In my opinion it can also be the belt.

edit to add to the Post.

one time I wash my bike and my belt started a high pitch whine.

My 08 RKC has automatic so the 2010 will too. I can't remember when they first came out but I think with the first 96. My 05 88 was manual.

auto tensioners came in 07, imo they are the biggest culprit with primary problems as in broken baskets, bearings.
