Default Day 2 New Bike and I Scratched it Nicely

So, day two with the RGU in my garage and I managed to %$#@-up the left bag. Put it up on the jack, went to remove the left saddlebag. First pin did the 1/4 turn and popped right out, the second was jammed. Fiddled with it for some time looked at the mount etc and finally determined the little jaws in the pin were flared-out so I just started applying more intense pressue. Pulling away from the bike...

Then, BLAMMO! (techincal term), the bag popped off and slipped out of my hands with the lid's weight taking the whole thing directly onto my garage floor...grit and gravel bits etc. scratched the hell out of the top. See pics (note one of the corners in the lower pic is a reflection but the edge is hosed.

Not being a body-work guy, no idea what to do (specifically anyway). I have a rotary polisher and pads. I assume I need to clay it or something more to try and "buff-out" the damage...at least as a try...or is that a bad idea? Can only imagine what a body shop is going to ding me for. Is this a DIY job or leave it to the pros?

Grrrrrr....

Happens to everyone, hell, read up on polishing it out before trying, you can't screw it up much more than it is. If not, it's a small paint job, no big deal. Lot's of local guys can help you out, even ask your dealer who they use.

That stinks, but it happens. Try fixing if it doesn’t look ride, buy a lid. As mentioned they show up on the classifieds.

Well, crap. Your only choice here is to sell it, and buy a new one, without the scratches. This one will never run right, now. Plus, it'll never forgive you.
