Frozen clutch assembly
 

I need to get my inner primary case off and I have a shop manual. The compensator bolt came out ok and I finally got the nut off the clutch main shaft, but the clutch assembly won't move. Could use some advice if anyone has experience with this. Bike is a 2007 Road King.

Try harder. It should just pull right off.

Yeah, I watched a bunch of u tube videos an they just slide off. they always mention the compensator bolt being the tough one, but
i had to use a breaker bar and a 6 ft cheater bar just to break loose the main shaft clutch nut. Don't know,but I think it was way over torqued. I put some hard plastic wedges behind the ring gear and got a small nail bar to try loosen it. guess I'll have to build a puller.

SOmeone may have soaked the splines with Loctite.
BUT........
If your clutch is frozen you need not go further.
Pull the clutch parts from the basket. (if I remember right.)

I had the same problem when I did mine. I just kept working on it until it came off and tried not to force anything. When I removed the clutch assembly, I checked it on another shaft and it slid on and off easily. When I reinstalled it, it went on easier but it still hung up a little. I don't know what caused the issue but everything has been working fine. When I was in there I did upgrade the automatic adjuster with the Baker Attitude Adjuster. Good luck with the job.

Hope you know that the mainshaft nut is left handed.. :D Clutch should slide off but if the was torqued too much it might have squashed the washer cast into the hub to the point were it won't clear the threads.. Could have also been lock-tighted on. You might need a puller if you can't get enough leverage without damage.

Where am I wrong here?
If the clutch package is frozen why not just remove it, and not the whole basket?
Nothing about the splines is going to fix this.

I think the problem is that the clutch is stuck on the shaft. It's not a "plates stuck together" thing..

It was the complete clutch assembly that was stuck on to the main shaft. I did remove the clutch plates for better access, but i ended up changing up a home made puller I made for another project and it came off. It does appear there was something on the splines.
