At that price I wouldn't hesitate.

I own a 2008 Ultra which is nearly the exact same bike but w/ a tourpak (which I made detachable), I also own a 2012 with the newer frame.

They both handle well, 08 feels quite a bit smaller though. Hasn't been an issue. Not all seats are interchangeable as many state, the smaller frame on the 08s prevents some from fitting right (not all but some, firsthand experience here).
The smaller rear tire is nice, significantly cheaper then the 2012 tire. I don't find a bigger rear tire changes the handling for me.

The gearing is very 'tall' on the 08 meaning, you're in 1st gear until like 10-20 mph which can be a bit annoying. 6th gear isn't useful until 80mph+ if at all. Even on the interstate I don't use it a lot.

Haven't seen ABS mentioned, does this bike have it? if so, do reading on ABS module failures before pulling trigger. Not that its a dealbreaker, but, if there hasn't been regular service done on the bike esp IRT the brake fluid its something to ask the seller about.

For that price it'd almost be a no brainer.

There's "nothing wrong" with a 08, but if you ride hard the new frame is worth the extra $$. The rear tire may cost 50% more, but it lasts 50% longer, get a 09 RG it already has 13" shocks & it's a Shark!

hasn't been my experience! it has a larger contact patch etc, but longevity is the same.

I have an 08 SG I bought new that has 75,000 miles on it now. It has been a great bike. I joined this forum shortly after I bought it and read about all the "problems" with the 08 touring bikes. I worried and worried about what I was in for after reading this forum. I guess I got lucky. I ride it anywhere I want whenever I get the chance to take a road trip. I have had many, many 800 mile days and my only regrets concerning this bike is worrying too much about what I read in the beginning.
