Follow the procedure in the sticky in the clutch area.

BTW...it’s not a normal wear for the slack to go away...

Why not? As the friction wears, lever moves out.

Yes, and also the cable might be a little sticky from the cold. Especially if the cable has ever been lubed with oil,instead of a 'dry' type of lube.
