K&N Stock cover high flow kit question... 3930 vs 3930X
Was looking for a high flow kit for my bike and see that K&N makes a replacement base-plate system that uses the stock cover. That's what I want. Google says the RK-3930 part number is what I want and it's about $175 or so pretty much everywhere. Then I see that Walmart (of all places) is selling a RK-3930X part number for $120 shipped to my door.. which is significant. Took me a while to see the difference between the two kits, but the X designates a larger filter medium.. it's a 1.6" thick filter on the 3930 vs a 3.3" thick filter, so it's a lot thicker. And that's good.. unless the element cover sticks out all that much more into your leg.
Does anyone have experience with either of these setups to offer it it's intrusive or not? It's a lot less money for a bigger filter, but that's a drag if it's all in the way when riding.

Given the dimensions I would guess that the filter would make the cover stick out an additional 1.5 inches. Is the base plate different for the X model? Does it recess in more than the 3930 base plate to compensate for the extra thickness? Since I am running a K&N filter under my stock cover and using the stock base plate, what differences are there with the K&N plate over stock?
