On my SG, I use a 7" tinted windsplitter between spring and fall because I want the extra air and a 10" windsplitter in the winter because I don't.. I run the 10" on my ultra all year. They're both great windshields in my opinion.

Good topic, Im about to buy a new windshield and trying to decide what size to go with. I like the look of a lower one and have been thinking about a 8,9, or 10 but at the same time don't want to be changing out windshields for highway trips either. Any suggestions, Im about 5'11 and don't mind a little wind in my face

How different can the weather be? How different is a 1,000 mile journey from putt-ing around town?

I have a "touring" shield for long trips, and a shorty for around town. It takes about 4 minutes to change them.

This has to be about a Looks thing.............too vain for me.
Function over form-
I dont have a TT bike, I outgrew them in my 20s.
The weather is the same on a 500 hundred mile trip as it is around twn.
I think an electric screen would be great....But It will be offered as a "stage Kit" from HD at some point.
Until then , I am good to go.

It's not a "looks thing"; it's a function. It's the same reason you like the idea of an electric windscreen. Around town, I like the wind in my teeth at full volume. On a long trip, that can wear you out.

And I haven't a clue what a "TT" bike is.

My day to day rides can differ dramatically. Like I said originally, The 6" I use most is great for "most" of my riding. However, regardless of how tight I put my helmet on, or how many times I adjust my riding position, I get enough buffeting to give me a headache. I have actually taken off my windscreen completely and let the wind hit me directly at times. Sounds stupid, looks ridiculous, but no buffeting, just a continuous, in your face air flow. Although it poses other issues, I don't get a headache. I am about 75%/25% function over form. These bikes arent cheap and I highly doubt that we bought them for point A to point B traveling. (although some have). We bought them for style.

I have adjustable side wind deflectors and they help also. I will concede and find something that is less aesthetically pleasing if it solves my long ride issues. I see many of you guys and gals use the LRS. I think I will direct my research there for now. I have a couple of months before Daytona. That's a 750 mile, one way shot that I want to enjoy, not regret. I appreciate all the feedback and debate.

Had a Memphis Shades batwing on my old Road King and had a summer and winter shield. On my current Road King Police model I have a Clearview wide shield for winter and a shorter narrower Memphis Shades for warm weather.

i think its a function thing at least for me it is.
shorter trips 100~200 miles my 2015 RGC is basically stripped and i use a 6.5" KW shield. longer trips, 300~4000 miles, the tourpak/Ultra seat/10" shield/water bottle holders/vented lowers go on.
happy wife = happy life
