Long trip - Your favorite thing? Wish you had?
I am going on a 9-day trip this year, about 400 miles every day.
It's nothing too crazy but I was just curious what people really like for long trips, what they dislike, and what they wish they had?
2008 Road glide. I have a comfortable seat and cruise control, and think I'll put on a back rest for myself, but open to ideas....Thanks

Back rest is a must. So are highway pegs. What do you have for luggage? Bags like Dowco, T-Bag, etc with waterproof covers are a must. A few tools to handle small repairs on the road. GPS is not a requirement, but a map is. Be it paper map or something off your phone, unless you know exactly what and where you're going, you will need some directions. And the last thing I might suggest is a rain suit. It will rain! Do a search or check several of the different areas here and you will find similar questions asked. There is a road trip thread here that will be helpful.
Good luck!

I've done long trips, both by bike and car, and will not set off without a satnav, especially if going into localities you don't know. If you only use it to find that nice hotel (or campsite if you must!) at the end of the day it is worthwhile. I do however also take paper maps - the satnav knows where you are, the maps give you perspective in the landscape. A weatherproof bag and riding gear, a few simple tools and some warm clothes. If it rains the temperature often drops as well, at least in these parts. Have a great trip.

Last year, I did ~2500 miles in 6 days.
Necessities:
Necessities:
- Highway Pegs
- Drink Holder
- Sena 20S (communication with the other rider I was with. Priceless)
- Phone mount with charging cable
- I really can't think of anything I didn't like or want. I've done a several cross country trips, so my scoot is pretty well setup for me.

Just a small "comfort" item I carry now, sometimes even on just day jaunts not too far from home, is a Thermos bottle for coffee. Not a big one. And I can put it in a saddlebag or the tour pak, or wrapped in the jacket I have bungeed on top of the tour pak.
I like making a coffee & pee stop even when I don't need gas. And by having a small/medium sized Thermos of hot coffee with me I don't have to wait for a fast food joint, gas/convenience place, etc. and worry about parking, watching my stuff, etc. and then finding coffee that should have been thrown out an hour or two ago.

The ABSOLUTE #1 thing I like is "GOOD WEATHER". I have ridden five days in rain before, I have left out as it was beginning to snow, ridden in the cold and ridden in the heat.
My bike is setup perfect. Heated Grips, Heated Seat, REAL sheep skin seat cover, Pro-Action rear shocks and the right handle bars. Add my loving wife that reaches her arms around me and all is good!
Ride safe

Not something to take but something to do. Take your wallet and anything else out of your back pocket before you hit the road.
As already mentioned, good rain gear. Another tip a friend told me about camping. Take a pen and paper so you can write down the things you wish you had so you'll have them on the next trip. And last but not least, a pain reliever of your choice.
I love going on multi day trips. Did roughly a 3000 mile trip this past fall and had a great time. Of course the best part was the first day. 550 miles by myself to pick up the wife at the airport. She couldn't get the day off and flew to the first stop after work.I guess that's another tip if your going to a far off destination and the first and last days are hauling *** on the interstate all day. Fly the misses there and back and you don't have to listen to her complain while you enjoy the ride.
