Default Why do OEM Chopped Tour Paks depreciate so much, so quickly?

I just bought a Superior Blue Chopped tour pak that is in phenomenal shape, with the detachable mounting rack and CVO pad for about 37% of what it would have cost new. In my search I found a few listed for about 50% of HD price. Why don't they hold their value? The ones priced higher never seem to sell.

When I buy anything used, it has to be less than half new price. Seems reasonable.

I believe because the larger tour pak holds more stuff. That, and my full face helmet fits the king with room to spare, is the reason I went with a king. I was happy t find a new one for 200 off list price.

The main thing that determines value is what someone who doesn't own one will pay to acquire one.

I can claim my Limited is "worth" $XX,XXX.XX, but if I can't sell it for that, it really isn't..................................

was the one that you bought the old style or the rushmore? if old style, thats gonna be a big factor in the price as they are not in as much demand as the rushmore style tour packs and saddlebags.

Did you KNOW it was in "phenomenal shape" until after it arrived? Does the color accidentally match your machine? When you buy new, if there is even a paint flaw, you can probably swap it for another one, not so with a used item you didn't see before you bought it. How expensive a "BET" are you comfortable making vs a risk free purchase new?

My guess is because the original MSRP is an effing ripoff, and the resale value more accurately reflects true value.

also when used it can be tough to find a buyer that needs the specific color as for sale.
I say count your blessings as when I was adding one to my RGS also Sup Blue I couldn't find an OEM or aftermarket in my color while others were cheap enough that I was contemplating buying what was out there and just having painted

I can’t figure out why anyone would want a chopped one, why bother lol maybe that’s why, if your gonna get one, get one big enough to actually put something in
