Does the adjuster on the "Premium" shock adjust preload or compression damping? If it's only adjusting damping, it can't adequately adjust for load. If it's adjusting preload, it's only changing one side and is loading the swingarm unevenly.
Either way it's no wonder people struggle to make it work.

Guess I'm one of the few, but I like the factory suspension on my RGS. I did have to play around with the preload a bit to find the sweet spot, but I want a firmer suspension for quick handling in the twisties. Everybody has a different need for their personal taste, and fortunately there are many good aftermarket options that fit the bill. Not all of us want "Lincoln" suspensions. I got what I paid for and like it.

I felt exactly the same way when I went from my 2008 Fat Boy to a 2016 FLHXS. The first thing I did was get rid of the low profile front tire and went with a new take off from an Ultra. That extra 2 inches of rubber made a world of difference up front. Just a few weeks ago I found new Premium 13 inch take offs from a 2019 FLHTCU (54000094 and 54000093) on eBay for $200 and I am finally really happy with the ride. There are many options in aftermarket shocks that work great as well, though I was happy spending $200 as opposed to $700-$800. The key I believe is that extra inch of travel.

Yup. Harley knows who they're marketing to. You've seen them post on these forums numerous times. The guys who think you're not a real biker unless you're as uncomfortable as possible. You have to feel like you rode a 2X4, with no suspension, in a wind tunnel, with as little gear that can be considered safety stuff as possible, and then you're on your way to being a real biker. I've seen way more people say they're satisfied with the HD suspension than people saying it sucks. I chalk that up to ignorance because those folks haven't a clue what a good suspension feels like. And that's what HD is counting on.

There's a lot that can be done to make these bikes ride and handle much nicer. Below are a couple of Report Links with some good comparisons AND some good general suspension information-
Front Suspension Report LINK
Rear Suspension Report LINK
Often overlooked tip...improving the front suspension can make the REAR suspension feel much better!
