I guess it would make a difference if you're talking all the time (for local rides) or for touring. You might just google tool kits for HD to get some good ideas,,, for things you might not have thought of.... eg: JP Cycle has a bunch : https://www.jpcycles.com/harley-touring-tool-kits.

A lot of guys would probably recommend a tire plug kit and small compressor. The was a recent HDF thread on experience and recommendations for this.

Happy reading/shopping for a new emergency traveling tool kit. I won't endorse any certain name brand, even the one I've owned and used once on a road trip in the last 10 years. I do highly recommend a Leatherman Multi-Plyer tool if your new kit doesn't come with one.

first you need to start with "innovative storage solutions" (bags/pouches). Provided that you have a touring bike, you will find that this is the way to go. Now if you choose this route, it is my suggestion to go out and purchase some inexpensive tools either from Harbor Freight or even a Walmart. I have one pouch for sockets another with wrenches another with tie wraps, electrical tape, spare fuses, another pouch is filled with tools that came with my ultra. I carry a test light and as others have suggested tire repair kit. Now if you are touring this country I would suggest a small compressor that either plugs into cig lighter or if you were to wire in an accessory plug....You may not always need the tools but all your friends and even those that are out on the road might need something and you may be able to help.....I have had to break mine out often when traveling with others and they say how do you carry all that and this is where the stage pouches/bags mentioned above come in handy. Good luck, hope I was able to help.

In my opinion all of the pre assembled tool kits are overpriced and inadequate.
I put together a very comprehensive set with extras from my toolboxes and a very few I bought. I can do most repairs short of a complete rebuild on the side of the road if need be. All for much less than half what a purchased tool kit would cost.
Having said that the best tools I carry are my cell phone and a AAA card.
