Only Starts in Neutral

Okay so typically I try to only start the bike in neutral, however in the past I have started the bike while it is in gear (clutch engaged of course), however this morning the bike would not start if it was in gear (clutch engaged of course). It will only start when in neutral. This just started happening this morning.
Assume there is some type of switch that keeps it from starting if the clutch in not engaged, perhaps that is failing?

Newbie here so take it easy on me if it is something obvious.

If it's 2014 up it's probably the left switch pack on the bar.

It's a good idea to give year and model when asking for help!

Welcome....

Thanks for the heads up on the additional info.

It is a 2015 Street Glide. I purchased it in Sept of 2018 from an individual with only 3,160 miles on it. I am at just shy of 7500 now. It does have an extended warranty.
Seems really early for the switch pack to go out and it literally just started failing this morning. Oh well, I guess it is off to the local dealer to get it fixed.

Yep, it's the switch pack as mentioned.

Had a friend's left side cluster go out on a trip, due to getting wet (we rode through lots and lots of rain).

Does your gear indicator work? Will cruise control work? Those, along with the neutral start, would point to the left side switch pack.

It's the left switch pack, common issue on the Rushmores, my wife's SGS went through three or four in 30,000 miles.

I did the WD40 trick in another thread. It's working now but looks like that is just a temp fix. I'll get it into the dealer.

Gear indicator is working and so is cruise.

You didn’t change grips recently on your bike did you? There’s also a switch in the back of your clamshells that the clutch lever moves when you pull your clutch lever in... check it out too, that it is in place. You can see it if you look at the base of the clutch lever near the pivot point.

Use your warranty. It's an expensive switch. Made in Mexico. Shouldn't take a tech more than 30 min to replace it.

No changes. It just started acting up. Took a long ride on Saturday and I didn't notice an issue, but again I don't make a habit of starting it in gear, so it could have been doing this for a while now.
