I used to have a Kwik Kamp in Utah where they would not tag or title a trailer under 1k pounds. So the trailer was left untagged, and unregistered. I called and talked to cops in South Dakota when I was heading up for a rally and they said as long as it was legal where it was then it would fine.

I called and talked to Utah DMV in regards and they said I don't have to but they would recommend it. Though since I didn't have a title I would have to put a bond on the trailer and it would take a few weeks to get it all sorted. I just left it unregistered and enjoyed my trips. I do miss that trailer...I need to get another one.

wisconsin doesn't require tags on small utility trailers so there's no need for any tag.

Apparently some state laws don't apply cross border. Like handle bar height. Daytona used to write tickets left and right for it. And those handlebars were not illegal in the home state. But then most states didn't have a las stating it was legal either.

As for trailers, the LEO can look up your state requirements, since their little book probably has been replaced by a computer. I believe Florida didn't title my small trailers, just registration. I sold a trailer to a fellow in CA. And CA gave him issues about the registration without a title. Most DMV folks have never encountered a less than 500 pound trailer.

Like was said about Florida issuing a registration and not a title. You have to register the trailer so the state can get some coin, with that you have a piece of paper to show the police. Even though you do not get a title you still get paperwork from DMV

We have a simple rule that says the vehicle's registration number has to be visible at the rear. So if you tow a trailer that obscures the plate you create a duplicate and fix it on the trailer. Similarly you do the same with lights and indicators.

Well I registered my trailer in Kentucky and thought I would be safe and get a trailer plate. I will only attach it when I enter states with plate requirements. It’s a full sized truck trailer plate. Ugly as sin ! Lol
