20w-50 three holes

Pro: using the same oil in all 3 holes is convenient.
Con: you’re not using the optimum and ideal lubricant for that specific application.
I use Mobil-1 in the engine, Formula + in the primary, and Redline Shockproof in the transmission.

So with this information I need to ask this. If I was running 20-50 in trans and then switched to a transmission oil, how would the 2 oils interact? Would there be a minimal amount of 20-50 left after draining that it would not impact anything? Just relying to do whats right for the bike and appreciate all the insight I receive from this forum.

I ran Syn-3 in all three holes on my daily commute 2001 FXD for years without any issues at all. That's what it had in it when I sold it last fall. When I built the SE engine for the 2003 Ultra, I started out with Syn-3 as break-in oil in the engine and Formula + in the tranny and primary. I experienced that the Syn-3 ran a little too hot for Houston summer traffic in the high compression SE engine, even with the oil cooler. I did some quick research on how different synthetic oils and dino oils perform in heat evaporation, cooling and retaining lubricity when hot and Amisol and Mobile-1 came out way on top in those two critical factors. Syn-3 was only slightly better than quality dino oils and pretty even across with Lucas, Casterol, and Royal Purple. I replaced the break-in oil with Amisol at 1200 miles. My son uses Mobile-1 and Formula + in his 2004 FXDLI

Mobil 1 V-Twin Syn 20w50. Find it coast to coast, stock up when it's on sale, formulated to work in all three holes, easy to find, easy to keep in inventory in my garage. I am a firm believer in Mobil 1 Synthetics, that's all I use, even in my lawn equipment and my guns as well.

I find that Ballistol Multi-Purpose, Break-Free, Hoppe's No. 9, or M-Pro 7 Gun Oil LPX works better for cleaning and lubricating firearms.

There used to be a guy around the forum that reported over 100K mi. on 20w50 SuperTech conventional in all 3. That being said I don't follow that plan. I like specific lubes for specific places.
