Battery Tender Help Needed
I have a 2015 FLHTK. It has a melted battery tender in the left side panel.
I want to replace it. I'm having no luck locating where the ends are connected to. Any help would be appreciated. Should I just cut the melted end off and run a new tender from the battery terrminals ? |
Don’t cut them, they are attached directly to your battery. Just remove the old one and put on a new one. Remove your seat and move the ECM out of the way and remove the cover plate and your battery is under that. Should be able to find a new one at a parts store just be sure when you hook it up that you connect it the same as the old one. 2 connections, 1 positive, usually red, and 1 negative, usually black. That’s it!

As my bike came from the factory with the tender plug fitted it has a connector to remove it. It isn't bolted to the battery.
I have a different model to you so cannot advise but the connector is under the left side cover. Best to find a wiring diagram. Not sure it is a good idea to just cut it. Any idea why the wire melted? |
Wow, news to me. Ok disregard previous advice. Sorry used to old school connection.

Battery Tender connected to starter, and you wonder why it melted? My advice is to find someone qualified to work on your bike. The battery tender terminals should be connected to the battery through a fused pigtail.
Here's where you can get them. https://www.google.com/search?client...tender+pigtail |
It's part of your wiring harness on the Rushmore's. Doesn't go directly to the battery
If it was mine I'd solder and heat shrink the new tender plug onto the bikes melted plug after trimming it back |

I'm pretty sure the battery tender is part of the main wiring harness, at least according to what I see on Ronnie's Parts Finder.
