Default 2008 Touring IDS Bolts

Ok, I've read all the horror stories on guys having issues with sprocket bolts backing out, bending or sharing heads from reusing these bolts but I'm wondering if it's possible to reuse the bolts in the IDS system on the 2008 and later bikes. Does the isolator system prevent damage to these bolts and these issues? Can they be reused taking of course into consideration cleaning out the threads in the holes threads off the bolts and Loctite on the bolts if they're in good condition. I do have a new set of bolts on order but it's going to take me a week to get them and there was a planned ride this weekend. At worst I'm wondering if it'd be okay to reuse the bolts and then when the new bolts come in next week swap them back out again.

I did just call the local dealer which is an hour away from me and shop foreman told me the bolts "could be reused, only recommended to change.". Also to let people know the bolts are Factory grade 8 bolts with yellow threadlocker. Also a custom bike shop beside the dealership told me they DO sometimes reuse them. Thanks guys.

In a few simple words, I wouldn't reuse them under any circumstances. Grade 8 or not. There will be other rides for you to go on, in the near future.

I changed the rear tire on my 08 twice. Reused the bolts with no problem. It's really not a big deal.

This will be the only reply I make here, the recent brake rotor bolt thread was a **** show with one very vocal misinformed fella.

Use 'em and don't worry about them ... go enjoy yourself

...taking of course into consideration cleaning out the threads in the holes threads off the bolts and Loctite on the bolts if they're in good condition.

Cool

You have already written a summary of the words of wisdom on this subject! Down to you to decide which way to go. I've had the darned things back out on an older bike, only just avoiding a catastrophe (think of a bolt hitting the swingarm), other members have had no problems. Think Clint Eastwood...…

He already avoided the particular catastrophe of a Pulley/Sprocket bolt hitting the swing-arm ... "Wait for it" ... by having a 2008 Touring Model

.

Out of curiosity, why did you remove the compensator bowl in the first place?

Probably for a bearing change like you suggest, just curious why he took it off.
