Default cam chain tensioner on TC and M8

Does any one have experience or background on the following?

1. Life of cam chain tensioner plastic pads for TC engines with hydraulic operated pads?
2. Life of cam chain tensioner plastic pad for M8 engine?

Thanks for the input.

2003 FLHTI with gear drive, over 250,000 miles
2006 FLHTI with hyd. upgrade over 78,000 miles

Pinion run out is the end determination in regards to shoe life I believe, and good maintenance.

Numbers typed in an internet poll re cam chain tensioner life/mileage on two different engines are largely unreliable. What is it that you're trying glean from this OP?

Not many M8s are high mileage yet. My 08 Road King with a stock 96 (twin cam) has 93,000 miles and no problems yet. Could grenade later today, but that is true of any machine.

Every machine has inherent wear items.

In the case of our Harleys each model has different items that is considered wear items.

You hear the good and bad about every one of them.

The age of a wear items plays as much of a part as the mileage.

These items break down over time and are not to be trusted.

Is it better to pay a few hundred up front or pay thousands back end?

Failure of some of the items could result in death.

if one is posting pics from a bike one should really state the year/model of the bike else....thread gets really confusing as earlier twin cams clearly differ from more recent ones.

OPs question is solid and I've asked the same in years past, no one seems to have an answer yet that I have seen, of course I haven't been scouring the internet in the past year looking for an answer, but few years ago I did.

The photos above are from a Twin Cam Harley between 2007 (2006 if it's a Dyna) and 2017. They're all hydro during those years and are all the same design.
