Default Oil filter removal without a mess

Is it even possible? I've used the Harley Davidson oil filter drain and I've also used the 2l Coke bottle technique, I always seem to make a mess. Any cool ideas out there? There have to be some techniques that work.

the HD drain works but it takes getting it into the proper position. It has to "snap" into the slot behind the filter.

I just wad up several paper towels and stuff them under where the filter is. Be quick getting the filter off and the paper towels catch whatever drips.

Guess I need to mess with it, mine definitely did not snap into place.

On the end - I drill a 1/4" hole in the lower area & at the top while it's on the kick stand & let it drain into a funnel. It doesn't eliminate some oil from dripping, but greatly lowers the amount of mess.
Takes less time to drill than it does to clean it up otherwise.

On my bike, I do this technique but no drill ... I use a long sharp pick and push through the filter on the top and bottom. I start the drain right after I get home from work and let it drain out all night. The next morning I put a little pig mat right under the filter to catch any residual when I quickly remove the filter.

I use a coffee mate creamer 32 ounce bottle that I cut the end off and then created a half cut out so after loosening the filter all I have to do is spin filter into container and remove from bike. A rag or paper towel under area to catch little of the mess....works perfect. I got the idea from another member either on this forum or another one of my forums.
