Default Think about trading off my 2011 RGU

Okay I have been trying to read the treads about the issues with the new M8 bikes and I'll be honest it SCARES me to get one that will have issues.

So here is the deal folks, I have a 2011 Road Glide Ultra that has VERY low miles on it. Now before you all bust my ***** for not riding I had a reason. I was shot in the leg in Iraq in 2004 and it shattered my femur and caused nerve damage to my lower right leg. So for the past 4 yeas I haven't been able to ride my bike. A few times I almost sold the thing because I hated seeing it just sit there. A buddy of mine didn't have a bike any longer so I loaned it to him to ride so the thing wasn't just sitting. Well the good news is that I am finally able to ride again.
This was my first time trying to ride the bike after I had my lower leg amputated. In May 2018 I went in for surgery and had my leg amputated to try and get rid all the nerve pain I was having. Well someone was looking out for me because it worked and I am now mostly pain free. Learning to ride again with a prosthetic on my right leg has been interesting but I am getting better.

So now here is my deal, I have found my dream bike. It is a 2015 CVO Road Glide Ultra with 6,500 miles on it. My 2011 only has 9,000 miles on it. But I have always wanted a CVO and this one is right in my price range. Plus I love the colors.

So I am going to go test ride the bike tomorrow and I really hope the Rushmore package is all that people say it is. For me one of the key features is the linked brakes.

Of course the sales guy I have been talking with is also trying to convince me that the new M8 bikes are better than the Twin Cam. So I am asking for input from everyone who has gone from a pre Rushmore then to a M8 what they think?
For those like their M8's what makes them better than the twin cam version of the Rushmore?

First. Thank you for your service.

Second. I have nerve damage in my left foot from a wreck a few years ago. It took me two years to even start riding and there are days it is too painful. So congrats on getting it taken care of. I have been dragging my foot literally on letting them cut the nerve to get rid of the pain.

Finally. I have a friend with a rushmore. He has close to 50k on it and has no hesitation taking it anywhere. He loves it. His bike before that was a 99 that has 120k on it.

I would look at it this way. It is your dream bike. If you can swing it the cost, do it. If you decide on a few years it isn't working riding then a CVO would resell better. Me, I am looking at converting mine too a trike.

I love that CVO, but I would ride a new RGU first just so you know what's what. Nothing like regret.
You may find that you like the CVO better and if so, offer them 22K out the door and see what they say.

What LP said, and Thank you for your service!

I prefer the Pre-Rushmore and Rushmore bikes. Yeah they might have some quirks, but at least most know how to fix them.

In my opinion, the only bike that rides better then a Road Glide, is a CVO Road Glide.

I went from a 2011 RGU to a 2018 CVO Limited.
The M8 is smoother and stock for stock more powerful than the 2011 was. The new Boom Box is pretty nice also. That said, my stage 2 2011 had nothing to apologize for. It was powerful, comfortable and never left me stranded.
If the CVO is your dream and you are actually going to ride it then I say go for it. YOLO.

Test ride an M-8 first, then make up your mind. The torque in that engine is so good it makes up for the tranny oil migration. mine only transfers a little in 5k miles.

Both nice bkes, I would love your 2011. But I have a goal to put 1/4 million miles on my 99. Personally I love the twin cams, best looking motor Harley ever built and easy to work on

You, sir, are an American hero, I salute your bravery and service!!
Unfortunately I have a 2008 twin cam and cannot provide any insight on the M8 sumping issues.
Get the bike you want the most, you have earned it!

Thanks for your service!!!!
I love that bike and the price seems ok. Swing through Owens meats and pick up some jerky and make the ride!
