To Trade or Not? Your opinion Please
Hi All,
Never Posted on this side before, I'm always on the Softail Forum. OK, Here it is; I have the opportunity to trade my 2006 Heritage Softail Classic (EFI) with almost 23,000 miles on it. Bike is in Great shape with no issues at all, for a 1999 Electra Glide Ultra Classic (Carb). 19,250 miles on it. Bike is also in Great shape with no Issues. Is this bike worth a trade of mine, are there any real known issues I should be aware of? I know my bike and I guess what I'm looking for is y'alls Valued input and opinions which I always Value. Well most of them :) The Electra Glide can be seen here: https://washingtondc.craigslist.org/...929614545.html And I have pics of mine here; https://washingtondc.craigslist.org/...930393148.html I know I'm a little steep on my price but it keeps the bs scammers and such to a minimum. ALL opinions, input and remarks are welcome. And Thank You in Advance. |
depends on what you want, if you were to sell your bike what would you buy?
Around me that bike probably sell for 4000 or so My dad just bought a 2003 ultra classic with 13k miles on it in pretty good shape, only thing not factory was the 2 into 1 exhaust he got it for 5100 I just bought a 08 ultra classic 6 speed, 96 ci, EFI with rhinehart true duals... 40K miles and it is in immaculate shape for 6K |
That heritage is a nice bike, no way I d trade back 7 yrs and to a carbed bike, his extended bags look cheap and He didn’t do an extended fender to match, so where else has he cheaper out ? I’d keep the heritage

I would look for a newer model

If the '99 Electra Glide was 100% stock, I'd consider a trade. I wouldn't walk away from a carb'd bike, but, cheap accessories would be a deal breaker for me if he didn't have the OEM parts included with the trade. Older bikes will run strong as long as they've been maintained correctly.

Thanks for the replys guys. Yea, Y'all definetly help keep my head together on this one. I would buy an Electra or Street if I were to change but wanted to verify what you all have said. I been rolling this around in my head for a couple of weeks now.
He does have all the OEM parts if that makes a differance. I'll stick with what I know, My Heritage. Again, Thank you, Frank |
I see no mention in his ad about the cam shoes being addressed...yours has. Even though the first 3 years of the twin cam have the good crank it's not enough in my opinion to trade back that far for your bike...you have a really nice bike. Let's say you sold your bike...what would you buy? If your answer is a touring bike then maybe the trade makes since for you just because we all know how hard it is to sell a bike these days. End of the day...do what makes you happy. As long as you feel like you did good thats all that matters.

I'd sell the Heritage and buy a low mileage 2009 and up garage queen. You may have to add some cash with it. But will have a better touring bike. The new frame is better. IMHO

Trade up to a newer Bike is good, never trade a newer Bike down to an older Bike not good.
If it were me, look to tread up to a used 14 to 16 Rushmore, they better power, and a better Bike. Newer Bikes are easier to finance also, the other thing you can do is keep your Bike. There is a ton of aftermarket out there, your Bike can run for many more years with increased power & dependability. John |
I would also go with 09+. Both bikes are overpriced IMHO. Although, your bike is much nicer.
