Default Tires

I have an '07 Ultra Classic and the majority of the time I am on tour with my wife. Wondering what kind of milage you are getting out of your tires. How often should I be looking at changing the tires front and back? I now have about 4800 miles.

Thanks
Paul

I have 11,500 miles on my original tires and have about 5/32 left on them right now. Front may have just a bit more than rear. I will be looking into changing them around mid September before our trip to N.C. in late Sept. Should be able to get another 1000 to 1500 out of them before then.

Ride Safe,

Mike

Dude... most of the guys i ride with that have large heavy cruisers are getting 9-12,000 miles but they check their air pressure before every ride and every morning we're out on cross country rides. They all swear to 2+ pounds to recommended air pressure depending on 1 or 2 up. Hope that helps.

Do a lotta 2-up ridin'. Bought our '07 UC in late November, installed new rear tire last month at 7800 miles. Front tire will (on average) go 2 times the rear. Just watch the last li'l bit of tread - it goes VERY fast!

I have about 8200 on my rear right now. I think I will be able to get another 2000 out of it.

use 38/40 pressure. Look to get about 20-22,000 front and 11-12000 back if you are not real heavy on the throttle in 1,2 and 3 gear.

Mike, the rear MU85's start out with 11/32", the front MT90's 5/32". I don't know how you're getting that kind of mileage out of the rear MU85's, because I now have 8600 on my bike with 2/32" remaining on the rear, but I'm very envious! I have a new D402 rear tire and wheel ready for mounting now, and after that tire is worn out I'll be switching to Elite 3's, which reportedly wear much better.

If I did burnouts, which I don't, and hot-dogged around all the time, which I don't, I might understand adverse tire wear. I got 12-14.5k from the MT90 rears on my old RK, and went through about seven of them in nine years. The fronts all lasted about 35k miles, and the front on my SG looks like it'll wear similarly. So what's with the rears wearing so rapidly?

I dunno then. I got 6000 out of my first rear tire and 4800 out of the second. I could have gotten another 2000 out of it, but since I was going on a 3000 mile trip I went ahead and swapped out both tires. I got the metzler me880's. Dont know how much wear I will get out of them, but damn, they are nice!!! Rain didn't bother me, hail didn't bother me, and climbing a mountain on a dirt road didn't bother me on those bad boys.
