Default RADIO INTERFERENCE - how do you get rid off it???

'05 Ultra with stock radio and Hogtunes.

I can hear electrical interference thru the radio from both the engine (sound varies with RPM's) and the headlight modulator (click, click, click.....)

Have been told a 12V noise filter or a ground loop isolator will take the noise out.

Is there something Harley makes specifically for this???

Or is there a simple Radio Shack DIY plug in adaptor??? Details???

I can solder and do basic electrical stuff but have no clue what I am looking for or WHERE to install.

THANKS in advance for the tips/help!!!!!!!!!!!

I would take it into a local auto stereo custom shop and let them isolate the ground for me. that cure the whine and if you use teh headlight modulating thing you will have run a sperate wire to power your radio as well. again a job for a car stereo expert. they also will sale you what you need to hook up.
what ever you do please dont have them install 18 woofers.

Go to Radio Shack and buy an in-line noise choke. It looks like a door bell transformer with 2 wires that you connect in-line with your stereo. Sounds like your noise is coming through the 12 volt lead. Spark plug noise will come in through the antenna and there you'll want to be sure you're using resistor spark plugs and resistor plug wires. The choke may cost $5-10 depending on how much current your radio pulls. I suggest your radio pulls no more than 4-5 amps and that's the choke size you'll need.

before you jump the gun on fixes, when did your problem start? did you add anything or take anything away. Did you change anything at all or did the noise just start. Common sense dictates the last thing you changed before a problem appears will normally be the culprit.

I am in no way advocating common sense tho.

The engine noise or whirrr (varies with rpm) has been in the radio since day one.And after installing a headlight modulator, I can hear the clicking when on and running.

I really only use an external HD mp3 player - nothing else - connected to the aux inputon the radio. But even so, on the radio itself - am/fm/weather/cb/ whatever...... I still hear the noises.

RAM - you might have hit it on the head!!!

Would this be what I need to clean up my MP3's???? http://www.crutchfield.com/S-ndRaTWA...mp;I=127SNI135

PAC SNI-1/3.5 Noise Filter
Helps eliminate ground loop noise from your portable music player! (3.5mm plugs)

Problem: You plug your portable music player into the aux input on your car's receiver, but there's an annoying whine along with the music.
Solution: PAC's SNI-1/3.5 preamp noise filter plugs in between your receiver's auxiliary input and your portable music player to help reduce noise caused by a ground loop. The filter includes a female 3.5mm input, a male 3.5mm output, and 10 inches of cable for each jack. Warranty: 30 days.

27 people say: WOW - all the reviews are 100% positive.

What do you think guys - looks simple enough???

if your bike is still under warranty i would take it to the dealer and make him fix it. there could be underlying problems if you have had this problem since day one. Have several friends with baggers and none have this issue. It's just my opinion, but that is why we have warranties.
