Jiffy Stand Issues
Hey folks! I haven't been around here much, been recovering. Anyhow, My 2003 FLHTPI jiffy stand was flopping so I decided to change the spring. Got what was supposed to be a good and the right one from Amazon (No dealers near me) but the hooks on the ends are bent WAY too far. They make a 180° turn and won't fit into the hole in the frame. Now, when I look at all the diagrams and exploded views out there they show me a tang extending from the stand mount, and the spring enters a hole there. I do not have that. My spring enters a hole in the frame of the bike. Sooooo, in order to get the spring in the hole, I had to straighten the bend a bit to get the proper angle. Now that it's all together the stand is not firmly against the stop when folded up. It's sloppy and drags on hard corners. When I look up springs, it appears that the 2007 and up springs have the proper angle to enter the hole in the frame, but I'm not sure if the springs are the proper length. Anyone else have a jiffy spring that goes in a hole in the frame, or is mine screwed up?
Thanx much! |
Never had to replace one, but you know someone is going to say you get what you pay for, buy American, order from a dealer. Good luck with your issue

Get the Harley spring. the Amazon and 3rd party venders' springs are crap.
This is one part you definitely want to get from your dealer....spend the extra couple of bucks...it's worth it. BTW: Last time I replaced mine I had the same experience...bought the Chrome plated XXXX brand, (popular after market vendor) and as soon as I installed it and moved the stand down the spring end bent and the spring fell off the frame....rebent it, re installed, repeat failure. I contacted Amazon and they refunded my purchase and said throw it away. So I did. Drove over to my local HD dealer, Bought the HD Spring and that was that. The HD spring is good for about 30K miles from my use experience. |

When I have the time and can wait for parts I usually order from Ronnie's HD, they have parts breakdown drawings for a lot of Harley's.

You might have put the spring on backwards. Like the guy in the video in this thread.

Watch this and save yourself some heartache. Channel-locks or any other method are an exercise in futility. Easy replacement procedure shown here:
