I just got off the phone with my dealer (hasn't warrented being called a "stealer" yet...But there's still time)
I really like the Screaming Eagle touring pipes.. I'm thinking of getting the pipes and the SE air filter... Then I need to buy the download for the ecu (This true? Recommended?)
Am I going to notice a real improvement in the get up and go? Basically.. Is it worth the money? I'm not unhappy with the bike as it is.. But a little more is always a little better.... Without breaking the already almost broken bank.
I'm going to do the pipes and filter myself so I'm saving some cash there.. Then bring it in the have them do the download.
yes you will get a performance boost from both SE products. As far as the download, save your money and buy another fuel management product. The d/l will still maintain the leanness that comes from the factory. No doubt about it. You do need something so don't try riding without a fuel manager as it will make bike run even leaner than stock.
Did you do it to your bike? Do it yourself? Were you surprised/impressed at the performance?
I know what you're saying about another fuel mangement system but I'm not sure which way I want to go yet. I know if I get the download then get a fuel mangement system down the road I'll be paying more. I would rather stick with Harley parts while it's still under warranty then once it's done, look into other avenues if I want better performance.
I just want to make sure it's actually value for the money.
You need a ThunderMax Autotune system. Whatever modifications you'll do in the future, this will be adjustable and won't require visits to the Dyno tuning center. You'll save $$ right out of the box. The only advantage of the HD download is you'll have a "limp-home" mode that will have more driveability than no download alone should your tuning device fail. There are no warranty issues because US Federal law requires the manufacturer to prove a non-factory part caused failure before they can refuse to honor the warranty.
I agree with firetender, skip the pipes and air cleaner for now. Buy the Tundermax and get Happy!
I believe you will get more of a performance boost from the Thundermax alonethen the pipes and air cleaner.
Yes i have the SE slip-ons and SE A/C. The mufflers are the one piece variety and I have been very happy with the sound and performance gain. They break in very nicely. They are not loud by any sense of the imagination. But they do have a nice deep rumble when you get on them. The best way to describe it is like somebody took the banana out of the exhaust!!! The bike just goes in comparison to the stock bike.
I did the same as you are contemplating, and had the HD download done. It just runs awfully lean and hot (no more or less than the stock bike, to meet EPA regs). It also will ping under load. I finally purchased the PCIII and used the proper map from their site. (should have used Fuel Moto, i know). Wow what a difference, and you can further adjust it yourself if you want. A Dyno is in the works as i type this, to finally get the most out of the bike..
I am considering getting the Thundermax unit. Maybe I should think about that first. I've read about it a lot on this site.
I'm in Canada, eh!, So not sure what the laws are here concerning mods. I just get the feeling from reading some threads here that Harley seems to do whatever they can to not have to cover something under warranty.
All of the prices up here are crazy even though our dollars are pretty close to each other! It actually pisses me off and I'd consider riding down to Montana (I'm in Alberta)and having everything done there but because my bike is new I get 20% off parts until the end of the month so I'd have to order everything pretty much now and I think installing the ThunderMax unit would be something I'd want to do in the winter.
Also I was told I wouldn't need to dyno anything with the pipes and the filter.
You know.. It ain't easy owning a Harley.. I think I put more thought into it than I do my job...
