Default Holding clutch in or put in neutral

Posting on issue of which foot to put on ground peaked my interest.
ifyou stop for a red light, do you put tranny in neutral or hold clutch and keep it in first gear ?

WHY ???

'sposed to keep it in gear.. so if some idjit comes barrel-*** down on ya in your rear view, you can spot him and get the F out of there (even if you need to blow the light) and not get run over. (which, by the way I have seen happen and a biker get hit.)

If I'm at a light and the car behind me is already stopped and it's a long light, I may put it in neutral.. but the MSF purist out there would call me bad for doing that.

Motor Officers are taught to leave the bike in Gear at all times. Good enough for us

Ditto old hippie. If clear from behind or someone blocks my butt, I'll rest my hand. Otherwise keep in gear tobe able to move in a hurry.

think about it... Your at a red light... bike is in "N" Lite turns green,,, Pull the clutch in / slam in gear = CLUNK.. Not even speaking of the other saftey issues... Just to hard on the trans...

Keep it in gear and keep YOUR EYES open all around you = You are stopped in the middle of the road - this is when shitttt happens

It's a very unsafe practice to shift into neutral at a stop .. Reason being, the second or so it takes to slam into 1st gear, then another second or solet out the clutch to do an emergency maneuver. Thismay be just 1 second too long.

When stopped at a light or a stop sign always be alert and aware of your surroundings and be prepared to have to act to prevent somesort of connection with other vehicles or moving objects (could even be a runaway shopping cart ... who knows?).Your life may depend on it!

Always in gear, ready to move fast if the bozo coming up behind me is not paying attention.
Also it's easier on transmission, so I'm told.

Later........

The only time my bike is in neutral is when I start it and it is warming up.
