TJRKC....I tried to buy this tool at a couple of HD dealers. They would not sell it to me, indicating it was a HD shop tool which was not available to the general public. The tool you are looking for is a Rear Axle 36mm Nut Ratchet Wrench. Kaster Hand Tools makes it. It is available at ToolDiscounter.com (part #9636) for a cost of $39.55.

I bought the ratcheting wrench from tooldiscounter to useon the nut side and I also bought one these http://pitposse.stores.yahoo.net/po36reaxnutw.html to use on the other side. The one from pit posse is about $20. I used them when I installed my IDS and they worked well.

HD dealers won't see you the wrench, but interestingly enough, they'll be glad to sell you the deflection guage.

You probably don't need anything other than a 36mm socket and a crescent wrench on your FLHRS, same with FLHX. The reason is that the 12" suspension doesn't stop low enough to cause any conflict with the muffler. OTOH, those with the 13" shocks (every other model) will likely need the tool. I have 12½ Progressive shocks on my FLHX and the socket just barely fits when the bike is on the kickstand, where the suspension is not bottomed out. It does not fit well on the lift, where the suspension bottoms out completely. I checked belt tension at 1000 miles on my SG with stock shocks at the time, and it was not a problem with the socket, a 1/2"-drive ratchet, and an extension.

Just break the nut with the socket, then loosen or remove it (e.g. wheel removal) with a large crescent wrench. BTW, for those of you looking for a cheap 36mm socket, I found this at Sears. For $9 you can't go wrong.
