Compare torque of diffrent Twin cam Builds
Can anybody compare a TC88 with a 95" kit installed to a TC96 with a 103" kit installed? Would the larger displacement create more useable torque in the 2500 - 4000 rpm range?Should I do a 95" kit om my 03 Road king or sell it and get a 103" kit installed on a diffrent bike? Which will provide more neck twisting torque while keeping good reliability? I also need to consider the cost of doing each. Thanks,Rick

"Generally speaking", increased stroke will provide better torque potential.
However, it is ceratinlly possible to build AWESOME torque monsters from TC88's. Mine makes more than 105ft/lbs by 2500 and 110+ft/lbs by 3000RPMs.... That's at least as good as most 103's.... or even 110's for that matter.
How much do you think think you "need"? It's easy to get caught up in dyno pissing matchs which are totally useless when it comes to rideability and reliability. Luckily from me, I found a solution that has all three combined....

Its not that I need it but I'd like it to be quicker than it is.When riding 2up when I'd like it he most. My bike already runs fairly good for a big bike. Its got a stage 1 done with AC and pipes. I would just likemorequickness when I twist the throttle. Just wondering if I'd be better off to sell the 88 and go to the 96 then build it up some. I imaging a 96 with a stage 1 is fairly quick. but a 103 is probably much quicker. I wanted to see if anybody has riden both and get thier impressions.

"Neck twisting torque".... Do the HQ 95" kit for a 100+/100+ motor that is reliable and rideable; spend an additonal $400 to change the final drive in your '03 from 3.15:1 to 3.37:1 (which is what EFI touring bikes had until '01) and you will have a torque monster. The gear change will raise your rpms 200 at 70-80 mph. Still not satisfied; put a SE 6-speed or Baker 6-speed in the bike.
Much more cost-effective for a truly fast/quick bike than an '07 or '08 RK, IMHO.

The "trouble" as I see it with going with a 103 is you have to do the heads. I have builttwo 95s and haven't been completely satisfied with either. I did a 88 with SE204 cams, whitebrothers 2-1, and bettered the numbers I had with a 95 with SE203s and more conventional exhaust. The 95 probably felt quicker though. I currently own both a 88 ('05 FLTR) and a 96 (07 FXD) the 96 feels quicker (lighter bike)and I like the power curve but I wouldn't trade up just for that reason. BTW the 96 has a screwed up deal with the cam plate having no outer bearings. It will be interesting to see how long those last. At anyrate the 88s are smoother and the 6 speed is cool but not a big deal IMHO. I like both bikes alot and plan on keeping them both because they both have endearing qualities. Also, I rode an 07 FLTR with a stage 1 and didn't notice much difference between it and my '05 RG with a stage 1.

Go with 98" pistons and cylinders, HQ heads, 10.5-1 CR, HQ 0039 or 575 cams, a Fatcat 2-1 exhaust, a good high flow air cleaner, and either a Thundermax or DTT system.
That will give you 110/110 or more with earlier power that carries thru to the redline.

And do you think the extra cash is worth it??
Sorry I kinda hijacked If it were me I'd just punch up the old 88...

augh ch!t just go and get the 200inch motor and put an extra gas tank in the tourpak.
All i wanted to do is to be able to ride two up with enough power to get out of the way. a smooth dyno run with a great mid range and very few if not any dips in the powerband.
i really think after a 95" if its not enough then get a sports bike and do track days. IMHO
