while i can't be absolutely sure, it may have been my fault, but some creep ripped off my black pearl saddlebags with lighted latches tonite. I don't remember if they were locked or not, but as I've read before it may not have made a difference.
Be warned and be careful make sure you lockem' up. And don't make it any easier for them.
Anyone hazard a guess how much it's gonna run me to replace them and the matching locks?
turn it in on your insurance, my guess would be around $1500 for new ones, you can pick some up on ebay for around 4-800, then you will have to get them painted....
That S_CKS!!
Son's Black Pearl Bags cost him around $1500.00 by the time he got the matching locks...
He had the bike 2 days & they ripped them off while parked @ his APT complex parking & the bike was covered and Cobra locked to the center post... The Bags were locked.. Only takes a small screwdriver and 30 sec to get them off..
We have since changed out the quick release pins with carrage bolts...
thanks guys, that's what i was figuring. I was thinking about the carriage bolts for when i went to the state rally and/or milwaukee next year. Damn, hopefully what goes around comes around.
If you bought new, you should have the little thing that was attached to one of your bike keys, that had a number on there for replacement keys. If you lost that, the dealer should have that on record for you also (the one you purchased from).
If you bought used, you might be in for a long process of trying to figure out the code.....
this really blows, i know it won't prevent theft entirely but, the carriage bolt idea sounds like it could at least make the thief work harder to get my bags. has anyone "bolted" their bags? if so, please let me know what i need to do it, and how effective you think that it works.
I don't really know how effective the carriage bolt thing is. I change the rear quick release pins out when I go on travel and expect to leave my bike in a hotel parking lot. I don't know if anyone has tried to steal the bags because they are still on the bike. I would think though, if someone got wise to the carriage bolt thing, they would just undo the bolts that hold the hanger hardware to the frame of the bike.
