Default Road Trip, Lowers and Heat on an Ultra

We're on our first harley, an 07 ultra. Have close to 3000 miles on it, and about to take a 900 mile round trip. Will be traveling through illinois in 85 plus degree weather during the day tomorrow. Same back on sunday. Should I take the lowers off for this trip? Will it hurt to leave them on as far as cooling is concerned? Any thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks, Joe

I live in TX and the lowers do not seem to make the ride any hotter in my opinion. they also keep my feet dry in the rain on the highway.I really appreciate them in the winter!

Heat builds up standing still not going down the highway, long as your lower vents are open it wont be any hotter than running without them.

I say leave em on.

I'm leaving Friday on a 17 day trip from B'ham, AL to LA and back and I just put mine back on. I have never had an issue with the heat.

I don't like the way they look off anyway. Keepem on and get some highway pegs. Bring some wax with you if you travel south. Lovebugs are out in full force and i have no love for them. Enjoy your trip

Treat yourself to a set of Heat Shields. Your heat problems will pretty much be gone. If you are happy with the bikes performnace you won't need to spend your hard earned money on PC II's or Sert's. I have the H-D shields, but would get the RJ Originals if I do it again. The H_D ones do the trick, but are chintzy looking. At least the first addition did, flat black. There is a new part number -A, dealer says the new ones are smoked like the Kury's, I havn't seen em, but the MOCO's work just fine.

As others here stated, removing the lowers won't help the heat issue.

Don't worry about it. I live in Houston and we have no problem. Taking the lowers off won't make that much difference.

Enjoy your ride. Ride safe and watch out for the crazy's.

yea leave them...
but.... get the new adjustable fairing wings,, like on the 08's!!!
WHAT a diff,,, you get all kinds of air by moving them plastic fairing deflectors,,,,
trust me on this one,,, if your in a hot climate,, these are a MUST!!!!
