True Duals and gas mileage

True Duals and gas mileage
I have read through the fourms extensively and I have not seen this topic addressed. I have an 03 FLHTCI that I dearly love. It has by far been the best bike I have ever owned, very trouble free. I have the Stage 1 kit and the 'old' screamin eagle mufflers, you remember, the ones that made decent sound? Anyway, through no fault of my own, my mufflers got damaged, so they were replaced with V&H slashcuts. I like these mufflers much better than the old screamin eagle mufflers. Much deeper sound. I do a fair amount of touring with this bike, 3000 miles last week (my once a year get out of the house ride). @ 65-75 mph, I average 38-40 mpg, 55-65 mph average is sometimes as high as 42 mpg. I think I should be getting better than that. I have nothing to gauge the gas mileage from, as I had the dealer install the Stage 1 kit and SE mufflers before I took delivery of the bike. The motor runs great, plugs burn perfect. The only thing is a little decel pop now with the V&H mufflers, but I do not feel it is enough to justify $350 for a Power Commander. I am debating going to the true dual setup, using the V&H mufflers, but I don't want my gas mileage to suffer. I am an average size guy (5'11', 210), but I do pack it down pretty good for my bike trips. Gas mileage doesn't seem to vary much when the bike is not loaded down. Opinions please...

RE: True Duals and gas mileage
I have an 08 Ultra with 103 stage II, SE AC, Rinehart True Duals. Going like a bat outa hell on the freeway, I get 39-41. In town, 34 or so. I honestly don't care about the mileage, however, except out of curiosity - because it's SO much better than my Chevy Avalanche!

RE: True Duals and gas mileage
07 Ultra ridden almost always 2 up, riders combined weight about 500lbs. Only mods are a set of SE slip-ons, yes the older style. I get 40-42 mpg all the time. Have a SE AC kit and SERT bought, thinking about maybe adding a cam to this for a wnter upgrade.
