Pirateye's HQ 113" LIVES--UPDATED 1/15 w/ PICS
[UPDATE 1/15/08:EngineFIRED this evening--almost instantly after Kevin hit the Start button. Hope you enjoy the pics. Kevin's bike is an '06 FLHTC; the build is a Head-Quarters 113" package which includes HQ HVP heads w/compression releases,HQ 10.5:1dished pistons, HD4.060 Bigger Bore cylinders machined by HQ,and HQ 575 gear drive cams; Kevin added SE 4-3/8" SE stroker crankand cases machined by Darkhorse, SE forged rocker supports, HQ roller rockers, SE 50MMthrottle body which includes 4.89 injectors, SE billet cam plate and high volume oil pump, Doherty Power Pacc, VPC clutch, and Rinehart 2-1 pipes.]
What do you do if, seven months ago, youbuilt and installeda Head-Quarters 95" kit (10.5:1 pistons, HQ-0039 cams, etc.), SERT tuned it yourselfand get over 105/105 hp/tq and 45 mpg on an '06 EG Classic? If you areKevin (pirateye on HDF), you decide to replace the stout, great running95" build with an HQ 113" build, of course. [Edit: Since my original post yesterday, Kevin provided some additonal photos from his dissassembly that precede those I originally posted; so here they are.] Here is the bike minus seat, tank, etc: http://http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...ptyframe-1.jpg Rocker cover removed showing breather assembly: http://http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...assbly.jpg</a> Throttle body and push rods removed: http://http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...ushrodsoff.jpg Cam cover, cam plate, cams, cylinders and heads removed: http://http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...atecamsoff.jpg Outer primary cover removed: http://http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...terprimoff.jpg] Compensating sprocket and clutch basket removed: http://http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...etsremoved.jpg Inner primary removed: http://http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...ndheadsoff.jpg Kevin began thedissassembly of his 95 removing the tank, accessories, heads, cylinders, etc. and I came overto his garage (to which his nice home is attached)earlythis afternoon to provide my expert technical assistance (the full extent of which was to assist him in removing the case from the frame:D) and to snap a fewpics to allow interested HDFers to follow his progress. So, here is Kevin before the heavy lifting; everything was ready for the lift with only a single bolt remaining to be removed before the case could leave its nest: http://http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...inwithbike.jpg Here is the case before removal: http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...einframe-1.jpg The case removed from the bike: http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...gontable-1.jpg The bike without the engine (note: the only uglier image I have of an otherwise beautiful EG is my own EG without the outer or inner fairings when I was swapping my stock inner fairing for a painted one and installing the spun alumin gauges--manall that wiring just sitting there is nasty: http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...ptyframe-1.jpg The case split and crankshaft removed: http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...Crankout-1.jpg The case bolted together and ready to be boxed for Monday shipping to Dark Horse: http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...together-1.jpg The intake port of the HQ heads: http://http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...ntakeport2.jpg |

Great pics. This is the kind of stuff I want to see on this forum. More good modifications being done by us real world type. No more freakin', "you think it's gay", shit. Good job, and thanks for the pics and information.

Great pictures and it is good to see another member tackling his own work. That 113" is gonna rock!
You guys are about a day ahead of me, I have the engine just about ready to come out. Was gonna pull it assembled, but have decided to take the top end off before yanking it (easier on the back). Going 120" and Darkhorse is doing my crankwork also (I know of at least three other cranks and cases headed that way from this site, mine will probably be last in line !). Keep us informed of the progress...and yes, it is truly just about winter here in northern Ohio, may not get this back together in time to ride it at all before spring. BTW, just a though, I pulled the side covers and bags, just one more thing to scratch or drop a part on, would really pi$$ ya off. |

Its looking great. I still can't help but wonder what he wanted the 95 build for when now going past 103 straight to 113 ?
Was something wrong with the 95? Not enough or just a short stop before taking the over 100 cu plung? Looking forward to more pictures of the progress. |

ORIGINAL: Ram Its looking great. I still can't help but wonder what he wanted the 95 build for when now going past 103 straight to 113 ? Was something wrong with the 95? Not enough or just a short stop before taking the over 100 cu plung? Downside is that once you build it, there is always the next step...[:@] |
