Just bought and am getting used to an 08 EGC. I love the bike, but have one question. What is wrong with the factory radio? I hear everybody talking about getting rid of the speakers and installing HogTunes but I love the factory speakers, they sound great to me. Maybe I am just not picky about the music but seriously, the radio is loud enough and I can even hear the stereo effects at highway speed. So what gives, are the 08 speakers different than earlier ones or what?
SG, are u running stock pipes? I still have factor tubes on, I'm sure if the pipes were louder, there may be some effect on my ability to hear the radio but right now I think it would be minimal.
Not just the volume is increased but there is a difference in the sound quality. I had a hogtunes speaker go bad so I put back in my stock speakers while I was waiting for Pez to send me a replacement, which was hassel free by the way excellent customer service. At any rate I could notice the difference right off, stock speakers sound really weak and the quality just isn't there compared to hogtunes, IMHO

Good sound isimportant to me and I think I have a pretty good ear for it.Hard to say exactly what HD's throwing in there from year to year not to mention variations in suppliers etc.I've had several HD riders tell me the stock speakers on my '08 sound better than previous years...less distortion & morebass.
Of course some types of music challenge 'em more than others...
All that said...I believe the stock speakers (mine at least) aren't as bad as their reputationbut if you want to go from good to great sound and like cranking your volume up with anything similiar to hard rock, rap etc... then I think it pays to replace 'em with somethingbullet-proof.
Personally I think it's cool that HogTunes/Pez and similiar motorcycle oriented speaker companies usuallyoffer great customer service, but there's hundreds of places you can find big discounts on expensive top drawer premium brand name speakers with better specifications.
Are you going to listen to what you read over your own ears. Damn, if they sound good to you then do nothing. Almost everything on a bike can be replaced with something better you just have to weigh your options and pick the ones you want first.
I forgot to say that mine sounds great on my 08UC so a change is on the back burner.
