Just to let youknow, Hooker advertises their mufflers for '86-'07 FLH bikes as the same. I believe they all had 1 3/4" dia. head pipes. The only dresser style muffler I recall as being different was for the 1986 FXRD. The mufflers were shorter.

Ok thanks Rini,

I thought they were the same size but couldn't remember... I know the real earlier bikes had like 1 1/2 pipes but that was back in the 60's and 50's...

The early pipes fit together with a flange, the newer ones have a slip fit.

I was just looking at the same thinglast night.

I have compared both early and late style and the diameters are the same. The flange at the end is about 1/8" and there is a thread on the forum that explains how a member cut off the flange on the early style to accept late model style slip-ons.

When I put Rush mufflers on my 89 EG I had to cut the flange off the head pipes and the muffler for those years has a slightly longer neck on the muffler and they mount with the new torca clamps.

The pipes are the same diameter. The header pipes on the 85-94 models havea flange at the end, just cut it off, remove as little pipe as possible and slip any newer style mufflers on. I'm using the stock H-D clamp. On my '84 I had to change the rail under the saddlebags to accept the new mount. There's really nothing to it. The only tools you'll needare a hacksaw andafile.
