Default Tour-Pak Brake/Tail Lamp Kit

I'm thinking of getting a Tour-Pak Brake/Tail lamp kit (hd part#68172-06) that gets added on to my plain detachable king tour pak. It makes the plain tour pak more like the ultra tour pak. I feel as though the added light would be a little safer on the road. Has anyone installed this kit? I'm curious how tricky the install and the wiring would be and if the kit comes with what's needed to maintain the detachable aspect of the tour-pak. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Mine came with a connector that plugged in a mating connector by the battery.

I added that tour pak rear brake/running light kit to mine, wasnt to hard to install, once you get past drilling the first hold to start cutting out the openings, adds alot more brake and rear running light,as well as dresses up the plain tour pak, pretty simple to remove, unplug the harness coming out of the tour pak.

I was thinking of adding the same item and maybe someone the Forum has done it and can post some photos or scan and post the cutting template. Lots of fun to cut out your new, painted Tour-Pak!!!

Was thinking of the same mod, but perhaps using LEDs. I saw a few rear light housings on eBay; might try to assemble the required parts a piece at a time (money is tight) and use the LEDs intead of bulbs. Has anyone else done this and was it less expensive? Also thought about the LED lights on top of the saddlebags and use them as turn signals also.

Just did my King tour pack last night along with back rest.Took about one and a half hrs to complete. Most of the time spent was cutting out the corners of the tour pack. The template located the cutouts perfectly and tailamp assembly fit correctly.Very easy upgrade to perform if instructions are followed.Backrest was a 15 minute project.

Thanks for he comments. I think I'll go ahead and order the kit and do the install. Right now I think my black pearl FLTR with plain black pearl tour pak just looks like a bunch of wet pavement from behind. A little more light will be a good piece of mind. I'll post how the install went in the future. Thanks again.

The install is quite simple enough that I did a tongue in cheek step by step thread on how to do that last April.
