ZUMO Powerlet Techmount quick disconnect

RE: ZUMO Powerlet Techmount quick disconnect
I have not personally ridden in the rain with it yet.
It's made for a motorcycle so it should be water tight.
I can tell you lots of folks on all different types of bikes are using thisPowerbar setup.
I have not heard of a single problem with this Powerlet connector.
I snagged this off their website for you:
http://www.powerletproducts.com/
"Our Powerlet line of products are the powersport standard connector.
At Powelet productswe are committed to providing high quality comfort, convenience
and safety products for motorcycle enthusiasts everywhere. With our Powerlet product
line we are providing the best possible solutions for your motorcycle +12V power
distribution needs. From cell phones to battery charging and from GPS units to
heated clothing there is a Powerlet product to power your world."
"Today, more than ever, there is a need for a standardized power port on small vehicles.
A bi-directional port is necessary to take full advantage of new “appliance” products such
as battery chargers, heated vests, cellular phones, portable music players, radar detectors,
GPS units, camcorders, heated grip wraps, etc... Installing a port that is capable of the
environmental & amperage requirements to power all of these useful appliances is important
for your ultimate enjoyment."
Heated clothing: http://www.powerletproducts.com/products/phg.php
I would make sense that it should be water tight.

RE: ZUMO Powerlet Techmount quick disconnect
Yes, I ran the power and audio inside the bars.
The first picture shows the Techmount stem with the Zumo and cradle removed.
Hook up and removal takes less than 5 seconds!
Today I took it a step further and modified the audio AUX input on the HD radio.
I removed the Delphi FM modulator and added an AUX input to the back of the HD radio.
I did this for a bunch of reasons better sound quality, no components to fail, interference on FM stations, no wiring etc.
I found the instructions on CVOHarley.com. GREAT JOB!
http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=7674.0 and here
06 and up http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=10044.0
Boy am I glad I did it! It was really easy! The AUX input took less than 20 minutes.

How did the installation on your RC go? I ordered a RC while over in the desert and will be getting delivery in May. I would like to mount a Nuvo 550 and would be interested if you ran into any challenges while installing the mount and wiring.
Thanks.

RE: ZUMO Powerlet Techmount quick disconnect
The most difficult part was removing and reinstalling the fairing and running the wires in the handlebars.
I ran power to the battery. Under the tank and seat. If I did it over I'd just plug the Zumo power into the the back of the cig lighter (while the faring was off). Other than that it was all pretty straight forward and no issues.

PM me and I'll be glad to show you what I did. After playing around with a few options I ended up with a very clean install and it works great.

RE: ZUMO Powerlet Techmount quick disconnect
Ok a few folks have PM'd me so here goes
>I looked into the website and couldn't find the 2 1/2" Techmount riser
This is a brand new part from Techmount for the Powerlet Powerbar.
They do not have a part number yet for the 2 1/2" Powerlet Powerbar Techmount riser.
Techmount also has the Accessory Quick Change Adapter.
Call Techmount directly ask for Dave or Mike Lee

Please be sure and tell 'em I sent ya' and you saw it on HDForums.
Things learned:
The screws that were supplied to mount the Techmount Accessory Quick Change Adapter to the Zumo mount were slightly too long. One of the 4 screws stuck out and put a small scratch on my chrome Techmount plate.
Check your clearance BEFORE attaching the Quck Change Adapter.
SOLUTION: I needed to put washers between the Zumo mount and the Accessory Quick
Change Adapter when I attached these together. No more problem.
I had to make steel sleeves to insert in the bottom of the Powerbar so I could make the Powerbar bracket secure on the handlebars.
SOLUTION: Two 4mm screws with a long collar so the P clamps can be attached on the
bottom of the Powerbar or I drilled two steel nuts that fit inside the sleeves so the Powerbar can be tightened.
Due to the height of the Powerlet Zumo power connector it is a little difficult to insert/remove from the socket. However, the Powerlet connector is large and easy to attach and remove.
SOLUTION: Slightly shorter Zumo power cable (about 2") and a right angle Powerlet plug.
During mock up the Powerbar I put some good size scratches on the handlebars.
NOTE - Use Electircal tape or duct tape inside the Powerbar handlebar area during mock up.
Luckily the Powerbar did hide the scratches. However if I ever take it off I'm gonna need a cup holder <sigh>
Just thoughts...
