Last summer while parked at a scenic view pull out this guy with a severe limp and a brace on his leg comes up to me, points at the engine guard and tells me he took his off and the same day was in an accident that screwed his leg up permanently.

In 2008 HD came out with 31 different models and only 7 models have engine guards. Take it off. If you sit around worrying about what if this or what if that happens you may as well sell the bike. There are a lot of if and thats out there.
Now THAT IS PRETTY D*MN FUNNY! And deserves a trophy of some kind! Shrek, I respect your right to remove guards, go without helmets, etc., and I'd still ride with you anytime! But for my own experience, with no engine guard, I'd have a healed broken leg, and might have hung it up and sold the bike. But because there was a crash bar on the bike, I rode ithome, fixed the bike, and used the insurance money to build my new engine and add a chrome front end with floating rotors. Have you seen my dyno run in the pinned threads above?

Mines gone. I like the stripped down look. If it falls it falls. I've ridden bikes for over 30 years and this is the only one that ever had a crash bar.

I wanna keep my SG "sleek" looking. I am not a big fan of the footpegs bolt on the engine guard look. I was looking into the Kury Ergo guard with the fold out pegs but they are telling me I won't be able to reach em. Guess you gotta be 6' plus to reach em, wouldn't think they sell than many. Anyway my other 2 options are to get the Kury Cruise Mark 4 arms and take the engine guard off, or bolt some ugly pegs to the engine guard for long trips then take em off.

I have heard people against taking the engine guard off, but if it falls no matter how bad won't the INS take care of it?

What are your thoughts?

Read your policy & see if would be covered... Some will - others won't and you'll still have a deductable and sometimes a betterment..
If it damages the engine you're allowing the insu co a way not to pay because it had been modified

Son's 5'10" He loves his lindby bars

I have a Kuryakyn #7888 Ergo-Plus Engine Guard on my 2008 FLHX Street Glide. It actually angles back toward the rider. I don't know about the seat/bar distance on your bike, but this bar works good on mine for most any height rider. It is actually about 3/4" in front of the floorboards and the highway pegs flip out. Their angle is adjustable too. It is also comfortable to use with the pegs flipped in. I also lay my legs on top when I need a change of position. It is a strong bar, too. I was going slow through a toll lane and had the cross arm come down on me. I stopped quick, but the cross arm had my head and chest twisted around and I set the bike on the right side. Got 3 tiny scratches on the bar but nothing else on the bikeeven touched down. I like that!!!
