What are your impressions of the differences?
Mainly, one's taller than the other. Other dimensions are the same.

High/heavy center weight on the king vs. the chopped?
This is one reason I picked the chopped.

I don't do a lot of long distance touring, but I like the idea of the TP, and the looks. Would I really regret, or miss the capacity, if I went with the chopped TP?
If you're going to ride two-up and must pack for overnight trips, I think the King is a must. I ride solo and the chopped has plenty of room for me. For non-overnighters, I'd say you'd be okay with the chopped for one or two people.

They can both be set up to be detachable, with the QD hardware, right?
Yes, and you can pick between either solo or two-up racks. See my sig photo for the chopped with solo rack.

OK. Here's my RG Ultra King Tour Pack price list. It's quotes from Chacago HD. Does anyone know the part number and/or price of the locking hardware (the latch hasps and the keyed lock)? Also, what does it cost to have HD flash the HK radio for the rear speaker pods?

ROAD GLIDE ULTRA KING TOUR-PAK #53287-06BZJ $719.20
KING TOUR-PAK BACKREST PAD - COMFORT STITCH #52395-03 $167.96
RIDGID MOUNT RACK #53118-98A $119.32
HOGTUNES ULTRASOUND AMPLIFIED REAR SPEAKER KIT $338.00 (EBAY NEW)

I also havesome other extras picked out(like the LED spoiler, the large luggage rack, thefitted liner, and the lid organizer) but I'll get these later.

I do not want to buy the TP on EBAY, as I want it new and color matched. Overall, I'm looking at about $1400, plus the cost of the flash and the hardware. Do you guys think this is a fair price?

Thanks!

You should also check with some of the other HD discounters--you may find slightly better pricing or shipping--the only way to know for sure is to check them.

The pricing you posted seems to be about 20% off just eyeballing the prices.

Also, I'd check with PEZ at Hogtunes to be sure of the fitment of his pods with the pre-drilled holes in the TP, speaker depth, etc. Probably not going to be a problem but I'd ask before buying 300+ bucks worth of pods and speakers.

As for the lock components, someone posted those PN's recently, but I didn't save the thread; PM Dawg if you need the numbers--he's been fantastic providing that info. Some dealers have done the flash for free, others have reported a charge of 50 bucks.

I wish I could figure out why the chopped is MORE expensive than the king!
Be sure to go with Chicago or Zanotti for the discount

I have the big un, think I'm gonna get a lil one for looks. Sorta a compromise between looks and comfort!!

I love that leather tour pack... it would look sweet with my bags on the rk custom... if you are tired of it, I would be happy to use it for you... :-)

I ordered the king tour pack, rear lights, rack, and qd hardware and with installation it is going to be about $1300. When I bought my sg I thought I'ld be mostly riding by myself. Now my kids are wanting to tag along......I'ld have been better off getting an Ultra and adding a qd setup for it.

I like the chopped for the style and look but the king is only about a 75.00 difference. Size does matter when it come to women.
