Anyone ever had an issue with RKC saddlebag adhesive melting?
Gents,
Any of you guys had any issues with the adhesive that holds the leather onto the saddlebags coming off the bags. I have one area in particular that the adhesive is seeping through the stitching on the lid and making a mess on the main part of the saddlebag. It is also oozing out from underneath the inside part of the lid of the bag.
This can't be normal on a $20K bike???? Can it??
I love the bike, but I havent been too happy with the quality of the saddlebags on this thing yet. The leather quality isn't really up to par either. That and the factory flaw I have in the paint where the paint on my bike where it is actually cracking off of the fuel tank on the left side. I already spoke to the dealer about my "acne" problem the leather on my saddlebags have experienced from day one and they told me it was normal. I cant imagine that the adhesive would normally seep through the stitching. It almost looks like they used rubber cement or something similar and it is breaking down and getting soft.
What do you guys think?? Is it normal to have the adhesive ooze out like that?
Thanks,
Dave

RE: FLHRC (RKC) Leather Saddlebags adhesive seeping
I have never seen the adhesive seeping out on my bags, but I do know that cold and rain will kind of loosen up the leather on the bags at times. It seems to come back to normal as the sun hits it though.
Last year a company was hired to contact random customers about this issue. I was contated almost 4 times in 1 year. Too the point where they had asked me to take pictures of my bags since I had not had any of the issues they were asking about. When I enquired about the "Why's" they openly told me they were hired by HD to perform the research.
Hope this gives you some insight

I have some small bubbles on mine, but nothing big, no problems with the paint.
I have seen several post about this, try giving a search.

I guess there has to be one guy on every thread that has to post "do a search" and it looks like youre that guy for this post..... .
I'm kidding, of course, but I was looking for feedback on the adhesive issue in my first postand your post didn't touch the issue I was asking about at all.
Thanks,
Dave

This hasn't happened on my RK Classic nor have I heard this happening on any other bike. Don't know what year your bike is, but if it's under warranty make the dealer fix it.
They'll tell you everything is normal and you'll probably have to fight with them to make it right. If your engine burned a quart every 20 miles, that would be normal too. That is until your warranty expired........

Only issue I've had with my bags is the top has some slight warping/ roller coaster. It's very slight and have seen much worse on other bikes. Have to keep the leather conditioned. No paint probs either. As others said I would definatley turn your issues in under warranty.
