RE: Craigslist - Would you use it?
I've had great luck selling on Craigslist. Sold a truck, chopper, bike parts ect... Remember the Craigslist is meant to be for local sales. Don't bother to reply to people wanting to ship parts ect. I sold a detachable luggage rack and sissy bar last week in 15 minutes on Craigslist. Use common sense to avoid any scams-if they don't show up with cash no sale!

RE: Craigslist - Would you use it?
Had a bike listed on CL.. ran into the same scam attempt as JAYEMT551.
Replied to the guy's email by saying meet me at work (Police Station) so we can sign things over.. never heard back (Craigs list actually posts a warning about this type scam)
to what's already been said, I'd add the following:
don't take checks, or cashier's checks.. they can be forged on almost any computer now
if you're taking cash.. get a BIG buddy to hand around you while you're doing the transfer... so they don't try to take the cash back.
DON'T fall for the "let me ride it home with your tags and I'll get it transferred into my name tomorrow".. if they smack up enroute.. you're on the hook
If they want to do a test ride.. make sure you're holding something of value that belongs to them (kids don't necessarily work), to make sure they come back
I'd do the title transfer at a Tag Agency, just to make sure your name is off the bike paperwork.
Most of the above warnings apply even if you're going to sell the bike via the local paper.
Good luck!
