i want to remove the tank emblems on my street glide and replace them with an older style harley emblem. my question is how do i remove the emblem without destroying the paint also when i remove them does the paint look good enough to go without emblems if i decide i like the no emblem look ? thanks

I believe those are held on by double sided tape.

Should be able to remove them with dental floss and a blow dryer.

Paint underneath should be fine.

Use a hair dyer to warm it up then use dental floss(but i like to use fishing line if you have it lying around) and cut it off and you will have a lot of residue still on the paint and just use either goo gone or goof off to get it off (BTW i think goof off works a lot better but if you have goo gone it works just fine) and i have used theory to take all the reflectors off my bike and it works fine but you will need to wax the bike after because the paint may be a slitly darker color or it may not.

I concur with the Fishing Line and Hair Dryer process. I removed mine and unfortunatly they didn't come off in one piece but it didn't matter to me; I had no use for them anyway afterwards.

I thought twice about putting emblems on my bike again because the "All Black" tank looked sweet but I had already purchased the new tank emblems and was obligated to use them.

If I had to do it again I'd leave the tank naked. I think it gives the bike a cleaner look IMHO.

Fishline/Dryer

If you don't screw them up may be able to sell on Ebay.

Before I attempt this and ruin my paint, how exactly is the floss/fishing line used in conjunction with the hair dryer to remove the emblem on my 2006 Streetglide? Does the goo removal product leave a mark from the excess rubbing?

Thanks in advance for any help.

A little wd40 squirted around the emblem with the Dental floss of 6 lb fishing line works great and the wd 40 will remove any remaining stickyness

You don't have to rub hard with the Goo Gone so no scratching occurs. One thing to note though, use the fishing line or floss on both sides of the emblem and work toward the center otherwise you risk putting a dent in the paint. I have heard of people working from one side to the other and damaging the paint. Just take your time and work toward the center.

You use the hair dryer to heat up the old emblem...use the fishing line like a knife, put it in behind the edge of the emblem and pull it towards you, along the suface of the tank... if you have the area hot enough it will "slice" it right off.
